Castle Helmond will host the exhibition ‘Witch Hunt in Peelland’ from 5 February to 3 November 2019. The exhibition is based on the book Duivelskwartier (from 2015).

In it, former journalist Johan Otten recounts a hitherto underexposed story. For the first time in history, an exhibition is now also dedicated to the tragic fate that dozens of women from south-east Brabant suffered over 400 years ago. Their trials are highlighted, with special attention to aspects such as torture and the water trial. The then common belief in magic is also discussed. The State Archives in Brussels are lending authentic documents for the occasion.
